So today I'm reviewing an ARC received from Netgalley, Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain.
Necessary Lies is the story of Ivy Hart a 15 year old girl struggling to care for her elderly grandmother, mentally ill sister, and infant nephew in rural North Carolina during a time when eugenics was popular. All social worker Jane Forrester wants to do is help, but in doing so she unearths some secrets that may be better left alone.
Mysterious right? I know, sorry, but this book is great. Seriously, you're just going to have to read it.
From the minute I read The First Lie, a prequel to Necessary Lies I was sucked into the mystery and the time period. I was worried though that with the bar set high on the prequel that Necessary Lies might not fulfill it's promise. But it does not disappoint! It is also a relevant read for those interested in what could happen down the road if the government or other groups of people have control over another person's body and health choices. Highly recommend.
